Deemed as one of the most challenging circuits of the Formula 1 calendar, Interlagos encloses numerous straights and corners which have strongly contribute to the circuit's popularity. Moreover, the natural elevation changes of the track ensure the 65 000 spectators a view of at least 50% of the circuit from wherever they may sit.
Built on a piece of land which was considered unsuitable for housing in 1938, the project was materialised in the early 1970's following the international success of Emerson Fittipaldi, and Sao Paulo hosted its first F1 Grand Prix in 1973.
